Inside of the over one hundred year old State Savings Bank in downtown Detroit, Doug Aiken's installation Mirage is as striking as the building it is housed in. The mirrored sculpture invites the viewer to immerse themselves in the reflective exterior and interior, forcing the eye to capture not just the structure itself, but the reflection of the room around it. The experience is haunting, the interior of the space is devoid of natural light and is enhanced with lighting designer Andi Watson's choreographed ebb and flow of white light.
To quote "Mirage Detroit speaks to the history of its landscape while looking towards its future."
