Shaina Mote is a young designer, born and raised in Los Angeles. Her design aesthetic has been informed by fusing technical aspects from her background in pattern making with with an experimental approach to draping. With a penchant for design that evolves with the wearer over time, often one will find subtle cues for reinvention within the pieces. Shaina Mote's collections are produced in Los Angeles where she lives and works today.
The Spring Summer 2017 collection was designed between cities Los Angeles, Santa Fe and Nayarit, Mexico. The introduction of the latest hue, Clay, is inspired by the terra cotta tiles seen within the beach casitas along the Pacific Coast of Mexico, as well as the table top mountains seen at Georgia O’Keefes Abiquiu Ranch. Linear gravity wave clouds, commonly seen in the city of Los Angeles, served as inspiration for the introduction of pleating. Stripes and strong, open silhouettes take inspiration from the sails of sailboats transversing from Isla Mujeres to Marina Makax in Nayarit, Mexico.
